Learn to run the arm

Three courses on real Jib equipment, taught by an operator who has been on the arm since 1993. Start at the beginning, or come in at the level that fits your experience.

Intro to Jib → Level 1 → Jib Master Class

Explore Jib craft for your own projects and personal practice — gear familiarity, careful setup and tear-down, smooth movement, and creative camera work at your own pace.

This program is not designed or intended to qualify its participants and graduates for employment. It is intended solely for the avocation, personal enrichment, and enjoyment of its participants.

Course 01

Intro to Jib

  • The names and terms for the equipment and gear — vocabulary that helps you talk about the arm with confidence.
  • Setting the Jib up and tearing it down, in detail, so the rig stays secure and safe in use as well as in transit.
  • Maneuvering the Jib and executing basic movements, so the arm starts to feel like a tool you can practice with calmly.

Who it's for — no Jib experience required. If you have never touched an arm, or you have only ever watched someone else run one, this is where you begin.

Course 02

Level 1

  • Setting the Jib up with precision, and operating it smoothly once it is up.
  • Safety habits for personal practice — the part that keeps people and gear safe while you learn.
  • Five go-to shots many learners like to nail, and everything in between that builds smooth, confident moves.

Who it's for — learners who want hands-on time on the arm, not just to watch. Extensive, interactive practice built to leave you with a solid foundation and the confidence that goes with it.

Before the Master Class — Level 1 is the prerequisite. The Master Class is open only after Level 1.

Course 03

Jib Master Class

  • Advanced work on the arm, built to deepen your knowledge and refine the skills you already have.
  • Tailored to the learner in front of it — tell us where your practice has got to and what you want to come away able to do.

Who it's for — learners who have completed Level 1. That is the only door into this course.

What the inquiry answers

Course fees, how long a course runs, where it is held and what a group size looks like are all set per course and per booking, so they are not printed on this page. Send the inquiry and the reply will be specific about the course you are asking for — that is faster than a page of numbers that would be wrong for your situation.

  • What it costs. The fee depends on the course and on the booking. Say which course you are asking about and the reply will state the fee and what it includes.
  • How long it runs. The length differs by course. It comes back with the reply rather than sitting here as a figure that may not apply to you.
  • Where it runs. Tell us where you are. The reply will say what is possible for your location.
  • What you need to bring. Say whether you have access to a Jib of your own, and the reply will be specific about what is supplied for the course and what is not.

Online course

Online course — in development. Register interest.

A Jib education course you can work through online is being built. There is no date on this page and no price, because neither is set — leave your name and you'll hear first when there is something to tell you.

Your name and email are used to tell you about the online course, and for nothing else.

How this works: this form puts your name on the online-course interest list at SSVIDEO, and nothing typed here is stored on this website. A confirmation appears on this page the moment it goes through. If anything goes wrong, the phone and email below reach us directly.
